This is a fun educational trip that will amaze all students and Chaperones!
WE NEED STUDENTS TO HAVE PAPER (Especially in 1st block). May I ask parents to check their student's notebooks and make sure that there is loose leaf paper available for assignments? Thank you! There are only 12 more Fridays, of school, until the school year is over!!!
1/23/14 Beginning the final semester missing or late work may ONLY be turned in on Fridays!!!
Students have five (5) school days to turn in work, make-up work or otherwise complete outstanding work...this policy may result in a day or two extra, but please note the policy.
3/7/14 Due to the high volume of absences, hand-in-hand with those students simply refusing to complete Homework/assignments, I need to place the burden back upon the "responsible" party. Also, if a test or quiz is missed the student needs to be prepared to complete the assignment when they come back to school. All homework is posted, in the classroom, each Monday and should be in every students' agenda!

Connotation/Denotation "Sports Teams" has a NEW DUE DATE: 12/13/13!!!
Far too many students are simply refusing to complete or even attempt homework.
I have a tutoring session each Monday afternoon and will try to be available other days (before all home games) to assist students that are having trouble working at the challenging level to prepare for not only high school, but any additional academic endeavors in life. We want every student to become more independent, thereby being mature and responsible young adults, so that they can have choices/options in life!
With class sizes so very large, in most public schools, homework is a necessary requirement to strengthen the learning process. I deeply appreciate all your hard work and investments in your children's lives!

must be the original work of the student,
and have been written during the current school year. Entries may be prose or poetry. Students may only submit one entry in either an argumentative or expository mode.

Essays should reflect an understanding of what it means toleave a legacy and how leaving a legacy can
and does realize Dr. King’s dream. Students may
explain the meaning of the theme in detail including specific real-world examples or they may present an argument about the need for legacies in order to realize Dr. King’s dream. They may also consider the impact of legacies in their communities as a way of realizing Dr. King’s dream of equality. Art images and essays should
reflect a broad understanding of Dr. King’s message
that extends beyond the details of his biography and the words contained in his “I Have a Dream” speech.

11/6/13 STUDENTS ARE NOT DOING THEIR HOMEWORK!!!
It is a shocking reality that students are simply not completing or, in may cases, even attempting to do their homework. We need students to begin reading more and more so that they can meet the new Common Core expectations. The school day is simply not long enough for us to achieve the high expectations set by a school of this caliber. WE NEED PARENTS TO HELP US ACHIEVE GOALS THAT ARE NOT MEDIOCRE! I allowed an extra seven (7) days for students to complete the assignments for LAST WEEK...you simply cannot imagine the number of students that did not complete their work in preparation for our Unit 2 Test. Grades will reflect actual progress and revised grades will not be posted until the end of the month. Please help me inspire your child toward accomplishing their very, very best-limit television during the school week, try to make sure they are getting eight to nine hours of sleep and reiterate that their absolute "best" is good enough. Thank you!

Email is still the best way to reach me for any questions, clarifications or concerns.
ALTHOUGH C.M.S. LIMITS MY ACCESS TO THE INTERNET, YOU CAN PROBABLY ACCESS THESE PICTURES FROM HOME. MY MAIL, FOR C.M.S., IS SO LIMITED THAT I CANNOT KEEP THESE STUNNING PHOTOS ON FILE. PLEASE ENJOY THESE AND FORWARD THEM AS YOU'D LIKE. Thanks to Huffington Post for this marvelous collection!
MONDAY UNTIL 4:30PM PLEASE NOTIFY THE DAY YOU WILL STAY
(I am often available to stay later so as to accommodate parent's pick-up of their teen!)
Tutoring is designed to help students grasp new concepts, skills or areas that they are struggling to master. A student MUST have completed/attempted homework assignments for the week prior and let me know they are intending to stay ( I do plan my time if I have no students for tutoring). We differentiate a great deal in class, often "moving" a bit more slowly than other Language Arts classes, and homework is designed to expand on classroom instruction/discussion.
E-mail is the best method to utilizing in reaching me (generally up until 6pm except on Friday and weekends); I do check it a few times a day whereas phone messages are received at the end of the day (as I am running out the building) and could result in a delay in getting back to you.
Enjoy the Ride

Classroom time is valuable. It is a time for learning – not a time to socialize.
All Students are expected to come to class prepared and on time.
I will not permit students to use class time to go to their lockers. The required books for class will always be posted outside my classroom door. Be sure to check!

SUPPORT AND ELABORATION
Support and Elaboration Strategie1.doc
This is the list of information that can be used to construct an interesting essay-from one sentence to a group, these ideas help students take quantum leaps in writing ability. In many cases writers will want to make a personal comment after using one of the strategies!
We will use this format for various pages from each of the novels, short stories, articles and poetry:
